ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK: A new decade brings a new No. 1 to the Billboard Hot 100, as rookie Ke$ha rises 2-1 with “TiK Tok.”
The 22-year-old, born Kesha Rose Sebert, is the first solo female to ascend to the summit with a maiden chart entry since Lady Gaga, who led with “Just Dance,” the first new No. 1 of 2009.
(Ke$ha is not credited on Flo Rida’s 2009 No. 1 “Right Round,” although she sang on the song’s chorus).
How many other women have conquered the Hot 100 on their first tries, as a lead artist, since 2000? Here is the list, which includes three “American Idol” champions and two artists who first rose to fame in superstar groups:

Earlier this week Ke$ha took over the top spot of the US chart with her debut solo single ‘TiK ToK’, after having done so in the Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
Her debut album ‘Animal‘ will be released in the US January 5th and was expected a week later in the UK, however us Brits now have to wait till April 12t. But don’t worry, there will be a second single between now and April.

“TiK ToK,” a zippy and salacious celebration of late nights and mornings-after by a new artist named Ke$ha, has spent the last few weeks zooming toward the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Along with “Rapture,” the 1981 hit by Blondie, it’s one of the most successful white-girl rap songs of all time.
Actually, that depends on who you ask.
“TiK ToK” is sung in the chorus and rapped in the verses, enhanced by Auto-Tune in a few places, in keeping with its electro-pop production. There are even a couple of ad-libs by Diddy, and a line that appears to be borrowed from Jermaine Dupri.
“I’ve done the country, done the pop-rock, done the super-hard electro,” Ke$ha (pronounced KESH-uh) said this month, taking a breather in a Midtown Manhattan hotel between performances for the pop radio station Z100. “I was like, whatever, throw some rap in there, why not?” Slouched deep in a cushioned chair, she was dressed like a hippie pirate, with matted dirty blond hair and black makeup streaming from her right eye in precise darts.
Having attended several press conferences over the past year, there is always one artist that peaks the interest of those in the press room with their intriguing and shocking answers — this year it was pop singer Ke$ha. At least, this was the case when Ke$ha entered the room at last week’s Jingle Ball concert and told us what she’d be getting for Christmas. You can’t make this stuff up, kids.
The pop newbie will be hitting the road next summer for Lilith Fair, the all-female festival, joining forces with Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow and many more women rockers. Read on to find out more about Ke$ha’s fashion style, upcoming album and hit song, “Tik Tok.”
