Ke$ha, pronounced Kesh-ah, is the pop star of the moment and Scott Simon managed to pin her down, not literally, this week and talk to her about her debut album, “Animal.” An album that Rolling Stone magazine called “repulsive, obnoxious and ridiculously catchy.” I have to admit that after I watched the video to Ke$ha’s song, “Tik Tok” and listened to some of her CD, I thought that maybe she would have a bit of an “animalistic” side.

But there’s more to this girl than raunchy clothes and, at times, explicit lyrics. Ke$ha is not the type of girl who will let a bad word or two get her down. In fact, she doesn’t seem to let much get her down, not failed relationships or even “backstabbers.” If she’s ever feeling vulnerable she says she writes a song about it, calling it, “the best revenge.”

Chart-topper Ke$ha has hit back at reports she was snapped wearing a fur coat in New York, insisting she’s an animal lover and always wears fake animal skin.

Paparazzi pictures of the singer arriving at her Manhattan hotel on Thursday (14Jan10) prompted criticism online from gossips who speculated her outfit was made from real animal pelts.

The criticism prompted Ke$ha to take to her Twitter.com page, proclaiming herself an animal lover – and pointing out her chart-topping new album is called Animal.

Ke$ha writes, “Its ALWAYS fake fur. I don’t do the real shiz (s**t). My rekords (sic) called ANIMAL! I dont do fur!”

Why You Should Follow: When news broke that pop star Ke$ha was about to steal X Factor phenomenon Susan Boyle’s #1 spot on the Billboard charts, the saucy singer tweeted, “I’d like to challenge Susan Boyle to a televised glitter gun duel…” And now that her debut album, Animal, has secured itself at the top of the charts, Ke$ha added: “Thank u for making me really feel like diddy today!!!” Of course, fame comes with its price — she has to deal with annoying fans (“Ironic that the obnoxious little devil babies sitting behind me on the plane started singing tiktok after spilling soup in my hair”) and a crippled love life (“Men I try to date suck ass”). But the magazine photo shoots, Hollywood parties, and extra ca$h (“drinks tonight!!! Who wanna come have a shot? I’m buyin!!”) seem to make up for it. Expect lots of hilarity and self-deprecation (“I can officially be a one hit wonder!!!”) in Ke$ha’s frequent tweets.

Nicole Richie almost ruined Ke$ha’s musical career before it even started.

Five years ago Ke$ha was still Kesha Sebert and still living in Tennessee with her family.

Her mother, Pebe, a singer/songwriter who wrote Dolly Parton’s 1980 country No.1 Old Flames, saw an ad in the local paper seeking “eccentric families”.

“My family is literally the most eccentric family in Tennessee,” Ke$ha, 22, says.

The ad was placed by the producers of The Simple Life, the reality show that starred Richie and Paris Hilton. Soon the Hollywood starlets were staying at Sebert HQ for three days in 2005.

“It was retarded,” Ke$ha says of the experience. “Stupid, really stupid.”
