The 23 year old hit the charts last year with TiK ToK, a track about her hard boozing and partying ways.

But the star doesn’t understand why she has been slammed for promoting drinking and clubbing to her teenage fans – because there is no reason a female performer can’t be as wild as her male rocker predecessors.

She tells Britain’s Daily Mirror, “You’d have to have no pulse not to come to my show and not have fun. David Lee Roth could be a total bada** running around, drinking whiskey and jumping into the crowd. I see no reason why a woman can’t do that.

“A woman who is hot, has a good time and drinks is often seen as a whore or an alcoholic. But I’m neither of the two.”

The 23-year-old pop singer-songwriter previously spent nine weeks atop the Hot 100 beginning in the Jan. 2 issue with “TiK ToK.” Follow-up “Blah Blah Blah,” featuring 3OH!3, debuted and peaked at No. 7 three weeks later – when “Animal” debuted atop the Billboard 200 – and “Your Love Is My Drug” rose to No. 4 in June. (Ke$ha’s Hot 100 discography includes an additional top 10, although 3OH!3′s “My First Kiss,” on which she guests, appears on the band’s album “Streets of Gold.” The song reached No. 9 in May).

Cyndi Lauper became the first female – and first artist overall – to generate four Hot 100 top 10s from a debut album with “She’s So Unusual.” The collection yielded the No. 2-peaking “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time” (No. 1, two weeks), “She Bop” (No. 3) and “All Through the Night” (No. 5) in 1984.

When the lattermost song reached the top 10 the week of Nov. 17, 1984, founding Chart Beat author Paul Grein noted that Lauper bested debut albums by the Beatles, Culture Club and Lionel Richie, each of whom racked a trio of Hot 100 top 10s from their first releases.

Here is a look at the select 11 female artists to accumulate at least four Hot 100 top 10s from a debut album. Paula Abdul and Fergie are the only members of the exclusive club to net five top 10s each from their first efforts (and Abdul and Mariah Carey are the only women to bank four No. 1s apiece from a maiden album).

Ke$ha, one of the presenters at this year’s Video Music Awards on Sept. 12, always seems to catch us off-guard with her fashion choices. Whether she’s lathering her whole body in glitter, painting stripes of blue across her face (and lips), or going out in public with animal masks on, this girl isn’t afraid to throw on whatever she wants. But, when MTV Style caught up with her recently, she revealed that everything she does is pretty calculated. Plus, Ke$ha reveals her entire beauty routine, like what happens after she wakes up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy.

“Right before I go on stage, I lather my body in baby oil and cover my entire body with a shield of glitter. Because it just pops! It just looks great! It’s really hard to get the glitter off. I’ve just given up. I’ve accepted that it will just be there. It’s in all my suitcases, it’s usually in my food, in my drinks. Sometimes when I pee, it’s in the toilet, I don’t know how it got there.”

“I like digging through thrift stores and sometimes the garbage — yes it’s true! — sometimes the garbage. It’s not like I’m going to go into the garbage with crusty food on it, all garbage is not equal. But if I see a pile of pretty sweet-looking shirts laying on the ground, yeah I’ll dig through it! In my fantasy world, I would just wear headdresses and run around in body paint and a glitter diaper and that’s it. And because I can’t run around topless, I just put on the coolest shirt I can find.”

“At a part in my show there’s some audio that’s saying, ‘I’m the dance commander, and I’m commanding you to dance, dance, dance.’ And I think this [a feather vest] helps accentuate that I am in fact the Dance Commander. These are diapers [holding up gold sequin underwear]. They’re not really diapers, and that’s really not sexy. But this is where the magic happens, is in these puppies. You put these on and then it’s party time.”

“I’m not like one of those chicks that really cares. I could literally just wear whatever, I’m not picky and I think that’s the beauty of my style. I can kind of make anything look cool if you just tie it up or rip it or pin or safety pin it or put glitter on it.”

Rockin’ The Upper East Side was to have been a 10-hour outdoor concert in Mount Pearl on Sunday, but promoter David Carver Concerts said Wednesday it was cancelled.

The promoter did not provide a reason, although it’s known that organizers were concerned about whether Hurricane Earl would affect the event, which had been planned for the field near the Mount Pearl Glacier.

“A further statement regarding the cancellation will be issued later this week,” a company statement said.

David Carver Concerts said ticket holders could obtain full refunds starting Friday from the point of purchase, or at selected stores.

In addition to Ke$ha, the bill included the Goo Goo Dolls, The Fray, Kardinal Offishall, Lifehouse and Christa Borden.

Ke$ha is, without question, one of the biggest breakout stars of 2010. A slurring, whirling, hard-partying pop oddity (who may also be a genius) with a #1 album and a boatload of hit singles to her name, not to mention more than a few enemies. She even has under her star-spangled belt, her very own, very public WTF debacle in the form of a rather, uh, divisive “Saturday Night Live” performance.

Ever since Ke$ha came stumbling into our lives last year with “Tik Tok” (we named it one of the Best Songs of 2009, by the way), she’s been nothing if not consistently entertaining, if slightly confounding. She’s always coming back with another massive single or eye-popping video, always saying — or wearing — something outrageous. In the process, she’s made a rather indelible impact on popular culture and, earlier this month, MTV showed its recognition of that fact, rewarding her with multiple Video Music Award nominations, including nods for Best Female Video and Best New Artist.

But how did she go from unknown pop curio to one of the fastest-rising starlets on the planet? Here’s a look back:

In January 2010, “Tik Tok” rose to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a record for digital downloads in the process. That same month, she was named one of three female Artists to Watch , as part of MTV News’ Pop Week 2010. Buoyed by the success of “Tik Tok,” Ke$ha’s debut album, Animal, opened at #1 on the Billboard albums chart, selling more than 152,000 copies and ending “Britain’s Got Talent” phenom Susan Boyle’s six-week run at #1. Ke$h would pay homage to Boyle soon after, declaring to MTV News that the cat-loving singer “knows how to party.”

She followed up “Tik Tok” with “Blah Blah Blah,” another party-ready anthem featuring her pals in 3OH!3. The song cracked the Top 10 and has sold more than 2 million digital downloads to date.

Ke$ha then took to Twitter, where she flirted with John Mayer and then drew the ire of both Britney Spears and Justin Bieber fans, after she (sorta) swiped at Britney in a demo of an old tune (“Styrofoam”) and called Biebus “a tiny little baby.” In both instances, she apologized … though, not before Perez Hilton weighed in, calling her a “trash-talking train wreck.”

In April, she was announced as the opening act on Rihanna’s Last Girl On Earth Tour, and then got to work on another video, this one for “Your Love Is My Drug.” That month, clad in a bizarre bodysuit (and later, nothing but glow-in-the-dark bodypaint), she performed a pair of songs on “SNL,” a debacle which was described by some as “the worst ['SNL' performance] ever.” Never one to back away from a good brawl, Ke$ha responded thusly: “F— the cynics.”

In May came the premiere of the “Drug” video — a bonanza of beards, boulders, Beatles and bodypaint — and the pop singer quickly followed that up with a cameo on 3OH!3′s “My First Kiss” and yet another Animal video, this one for “Take It Off.”

Later that summer, she hit the road with Rihanna, and described the dynamic duo’s backstage relationship thusly: “We braid each other’s hair … naked.” She then began discussing plans for a follow-up to Animal, saying she could foresee getting into country music but would definitely stay away from jazz. She also began laying the groundwork for her very own headlining tour. Oh, and of course, she revealed she’s planning a fashion line, too, featuring capes and haberdashery made out of “roadkill … and recycled feathers.”

Seems strangely fitting, if you ask us.

Chelsea Handler will be hosting the VMAs from Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12 @ 9PM (Live ET/Tape Delayed PT). Performers include Usher, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B and Florence + The Machine. EW is reporting that Ke$ha will also be performing!!!!! But no confirmation from MTV yet.

Breakout poptress Ke$ha is up for three MTV Video Music Awards and is slated to present an award when the festivities kick off Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. The “Tik Tok” singer is sure to fit right in amid the typical VMA rowdiness, and even the promo for her appearance is chockfull of high-flying stunts and other craziness.

“The concept … is I wake up, like a pimp, and I hear some noise, and there’s like a wind coming through my boudoir doors, and I run to see what it is, and I just get shoved out by this gust of wind that’s supposedly ‘fate,’ ” Ke$ha said, setting up the clip. “Then, I start falling and falling through … all of my experiences that got me to this point, which is attending the VMAs.”

Creating the illusion of a free fall for the spot required Ke$ha to swing about on a harness, an experience that apparently looks way more fun than it feels.

“I did do all my own stunts today, and my vag hurts,” Ke$ha griped. “It was kind of scary, because … I was flying around.” Being suspended may have been a bit harsh on her lady bits, but the singer said she’s no novice when it comes to hanging around for her videos. “I have used some harnesses before [on] my video for ‘Blah Blah Blah.’ … I’m into it.”

Ke$ha may have some experience getting strapped into harnesses, but she also admitted that dangling from the contraption was the hardest part of filming. “I think the harness was scarier, only because it was immensely painful as well, and I couldn’t touch the ground,” she said. “I thought I was gonna fall on my head, but I didn’t.”

Ultimately, the “Your Love Is My Drug” singer wasn’t sweating any of the potential risks of shooting the promo.

“I was only, like, 12 feet high,” Ke$ha said. “Worst-case scenario: I just would have, like, broke an arm.”

Drunk-pop princess Ke$ha’s had a big ol’ year, one that’s set to culminate at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, where she’s up for four Moonmen, and also performing.

Also also, the tall, blonde drink of vodka is one of the rising stars picked to shine alongside Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj in the VMA ad campaign, and her “road to the VMAs” — you can watch our exclusive premiere of the spot after the jump — is an appropriately trippy journey for this space cadet: Young Ke$ha is asleep on a giant bed inside what looks to be the mansion from the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” video, until she awakes to the strains of “Tik Tok” coming from outside the window. She plunges from the mansion’s balcony and… well, you’ll just have to watch it and see. And of course, weigh in below.
