CONCERT REVIEW: Rihanna with Ke$ha and Travie McCoy

When: Sunday night

Where: GM Place

VANCOUVER - Dropping a dollar sign into your given name is, as Vince Vaughn’s character in Swingers might say, so money.

And pop upstart Ke$ha’s probably making buckets of it, given the success of Tik Tok, the first single off her debut album, Animal, which came out earlier this year.

Ke$ha emerged onstage Sunday night from the middle of a collection of vertical LED banks which were then rolled apart into a trio of independent units.

Strapped with a guitar modified to resemble a machine gun – which she “played” for a couple of minutes – and coupled with her Clockwork Orange-inspired eye makeup on one eye, Ke$ha is sending us a clear message: she is a naughty, naughty girl.

There is, of course, nothing Clockwork Orange about Ke$ha or her vapid party girl lyrics, regardless of how many Metallica shirts she owns.

But she clearly has a knack for writing infectiously catchy tunes, the kind designed to get lodged in the back of your brain for obnoxious stretches of time.

Take the delightful ditty Dinosaur: “Old man why are you staring at me/Mac on me and my friends, it’s kind of creepy/You should be prowling around the old folks’ home/Come on dude, leave us alone…”

Charming, right? Then again, nobody endorses creepy old men save for creepy old men, so no harm no foul. And the young girls in the crowd enthusiastically shouting the chorus “D-I-N-O-S-A, you are a Dinosaur!” made it clear that Ke$ha’s lyrics are right on the money. (…)

Kesha, Like, Talks Rihanna’s Last Girl On Earth Tour

Ke$ha’s debut album Animal has sold over 784-thousand copies since its release back in January. The singer will be opening for Rihanna on her Last Girl on Earth Tour, which kicks off tomorrow night, and our favorite hot mess is really looking forward to the tour.

“Rihanna’s (tour is) gonna be so insane. It’s gonna be so fun. It’s like a two month long dance party with like hot babes everywhere and like just fun times and lasers and, you know, good songs.”
Ke$ha also spoke about what fans can expect from her shows with Rihanna…

I really want, like, when people come to my show, I want them to kind of be like, ‘Wow, I just went to like, this like, party’ not like a musical show where you sit down and watch. I want people to feel involved. Um…and hopefully leave covered in sweat and glitter, and maybe beer and, you know, hopefully on a mission to get laid afterwards. I hope I can inspire people to want to get laid.

Singer/rapper Ke$ha: ‘Really fun,’ yet serious

When Ke$ha begins a national tour with Rihanna on Friday, she’ll aim to prove two things: 1) that she’s truly the raucous good-time girl depicted in her smash singles, and 2) that she’s a serious artist, deserving of respect.

Conflicting goals? Ke$ha, 23, doesn’t see it that way. “I’m really fun,” she says. “I’m ridiculously fun. I hope I’m infectiously fun.”

Certainly, chart-topping hits such as Your Love Is My Drug (No. 4 on USA TODAY’s top 40 airplay chart) and her still-ubiquitous breakthrough, TiK ToK — on which Ke$ha, in the singsong rap that has become her trademark, cheekily boasts of brushing her teeth with Jack Daniel’s — suggest as much.

Ke$ha cashes in at House of Blues for a July concert

On July 26, the House of Blues club in Houston is Ke$ha’s drug.

Arguably popular music’s most successful newcomer, Ke$ha’ is coming to Houston this summer, for a late July show that was announced moments ago. The 23-year-old Ke$ha’ is equal parts party-girl and career-woman thanks to her bouncy beats and rippling confidence that shot her debut song, “TiK ToK” to No. 1 in the United States.

With songs like “Blah Blah Blah” and “Party At a Rich Dude’s House,” the star’s cultivated an image that is at once blasé and and eager for the next big hit.

Cash in on Ke$ha’s appearance next month at the House of Blues by logging onto the venue’s website to get a text alert for the sale date announcement — because once tickets are available, the sell-out clock will be TiK ToKing.

Ke$ha wants to be more than pop’s party girl

Ke$ha, who burst on the scene with the drunken party anthem “TiK ToK,” wants you to take her seriously.

Seriously.

The pop singer, who is one of the year’s top-selling artists and arguably the most successful newcomer, hasn’t been recognized for her artistic talents. Instead, she’s been bashed for what some see as her vapid lyrical content and party-girl vibe.

But the 23-year-old thinks she has been misrepresented.

I’m responsible. I wouldn’t have a No. 1 record or song if I wasn’t a hardworking person,” she said in a recent interview backstage before a festival performance.

Ke$ha wants Nova’s Tom Ivey

Serial trashbag Ke$ha is desperate to date Nova producer Tom Ivey, after admitting a fetish for Russell Brand look-a-likes.

The outspoken singer recently revealed her left-of-centre taste in men to This Is London.

I could not bear to go out with a guy who takes longer than me to get ready. I don’t want someone who’s going to steal my moisturiser,” she explained while describing her perfect man.

My ideal man would be funny and fat with a beard. I love fat men. I like real men… I like a funny man, though. Russell Brand’s not quite my type, but if he had a fat, bearded friend, that would be perfect.”

Funnily enough, Nova has just the bloke for her.

Ryan, Monty and Wippa producer Tom Ivey is regularly mistaken for Russell Brand and even received lessons on how to be more Brand-like from the man himself!

Check out the video here.

And Tom told us he’d be into the love match: “I would date Ke$ha because it means I wouldn’t have to watch my weight any longer.

We can hear the wedding bells now!

The boys of 3OH!3 keep it pretty simple in their music. Their songs rock like Def Lep, rap like Run-D.M.C. and have beats even the most “Jersey Shore” phobic among us could beat up. But what about the men behind the music? Well, you’ve come to the right place, it’s the Buzzworthy exclusive Q&A with Boulder’s baddest, 3OH!3.

In this chat, Nathaniel and Sean talk about working with both Katy Perry and Ke$ha and how the two new-pop queens differ. They mention a meeting of the celebratory minds between themselves and Andrew W.K. And they also give some details about the Boulder dance scene and how it shaped them and their music.

Check out the Q&A, as well as 3OH!3′s video for its new single, “My First Kiss,” taken from its new album, Streets Of Gold, which came out today.
