Given that Ke$ha once described her sartorial taste as “garbage chic,” it’s hardly surprising that her unique fashion sense took center stage during her musical-guest debut on this week’s “Saturday Night Live,” hosted by Ryan Phillippe.

Earlier in the week, when MTV News caught up with the “Tik Tok” singer during rehearsals, she was reluctant to reveal her wardrobe choices for the show. “All I have to say is that it might be really awesome,” she teased. “Actually, I’m pretty sure it is.”

While awesome may be up for interpretation, Ke$ha’s two costume changes certainly were eye-catching. For her first performance, the hit single “Tik Tok,” the 23-year-old took to the Studio 8H stage clad in a black metallic jumpsuit worthy of a space-age superhero (cape included!). During the a cappella opening, Ke$ha took her place behind an American flag-festooned mic, spreading her cape to reveal its own flag-patterned lining. Her backup dancer and accompanists were dressed like astronauts in shiny silver jumpsuits and helmets. Towards the end of the performance, Ke$ha strode to the front of the stage, placing her palms above streams of green lasers shooting up from the stage, as she wondered aloud, “Did anyone ever stop to think we were the aliens?”

For her performance of the recently released single “Your Love Is My Drug,” Ke$ha again sported a slinky jumpsuit, though this time her look included tribal-inspired flair in the form of glow-in-the-dark markings running up her legs and matching paint on her face; there were feathers, too. Less energetic than her first performance, Ke$ha spent the number wandering around the stage, finally proclaiming, “Hey, it’s Saturday night. Do you want to make out?”

Though she didn’t appear in a sketch as she had hoped, Ke$ha recently said she hit it off with Phillippe. “We bonded. You can say that,” she laughed.

In his opening monologue, Phillippe plugged his Men’s Health cover and the upcoming “SNL” spin-off movie “MacGruber,” which led other signature “SNL” characters, including “MacGruber” co-star Kristen Wiig’s Target Lady and Andy Samberg’s “D— in a Box” character, to pitch their own movies.

Phillippe also appeared as “Twilight” stud Robert Pattinson in the tax day-themed sketch “Mort Mort Feingold, Accountant for the Stars,” in which Samberg’s crusty number-cruncher gave the English lad a little advice. “You make too much money to look this terrible,” he said.

Even though Phillippe touted his “MacGruber” movie, he did not participate in a “MacGruber” sketch during the show.

Another sure-to-be-mentioned-at-the-water-cooler sketch was a Shake Weight commercial parody, touting “The Shake Weight Commercial” DVD, a “lightweight DVD featuring the Shake Weight commercial three times on a loop, then some static, then nothing else.”

Next week’s “SNL” will feature Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe as host and MGMT as musical guest.
